Kink Crusaders

Men for Sale

Men for Sale is a deeply introspective documentary that tackles a range of complex and sensitive issues related to male sex work. Directed by Dutch filmmaker John Appel, the film shifts away from the more commonly seen depictions of the sex trade and offers a nuanced exploration of male prostitution—an area often underrepresented or misunderstood in both media and societal discourse. The documentary is rich in detail, shedding light on the lives of the men involved in sex work, their personal motivations, and the socio-economic forces that push them into this line of work. The film is not just about the mechanics of sex work, but also about the broader emotional, psychological, and existential aspects of their lives.

BODY WITHOUT SOUL


Body Without Soul is a 1996 gay documentary about underage male prostitutes in Prague. Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and notorious for its prostitution. This documentary looks into the life on gay teenage prostitutes in Prague. Most of the boys talk about desperation due to being orphaned and poverty which led them into prostitution. Some of the boys were not homosexuals but the opportunity for money presented itself through homosexuality and they took it. Some were only 12 years old when they were picked by gay men from places such as the main train station and lured into sex with money. The most popular pickup spots by gay men are Podolf swimming pool, video arcades, train stations and discos. Video arcades are popular with gay men looking for very young boys. According to the prostitutes most gay Germans who come  to Prague prefer very young boys and will pay much more to get them. They also prefer unprotected anal sex. The male prostitutes will complain about unprotected sex but it is usually to get a higher bargain rather than the fear of AIDS. The boys have also been lured into acting gay films. They are usually promised a lot of money to act the films but some producers end up exploiting them. Most of the films end up in Germany and so they have to act them without using condoms for protection. Most insist on wearing condoms but the producers never accept because their content will not be bought in Germany. Some have been infected with AIDS from this business. One talks about how he tested positive as he lies on his bed. The boys say they are selling their bodies and souls to survive day by day.

BEFORE STONEWALL


Before Stonewall is not necessarily a gay movie but a 1984 gay documentary. This documentary gets its name from the Stonewall riots of 1969 in New York City. The Stonewall Inn was a gay bar in New York where the famous June 1969 riots against police harassment of the Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community took place. For the LGBT community this was the site of gay recognition and liberation. This documentary tells the story of gay life before the Stonewall riots. Through interviews with elderly activists and pictures, this documentary is able to give the history of the LGBT community prior to the Stonewall riots.

PARIS IS BURNING


Paris is burning is not necessarily a gay movie but a 1990 documentary about the ball culture among the gay and transgender. It consisted of the minority Latino and African-American communities. Balls are competitions in which cross dressers compete on a run way walk just like real models. Judgement criteria includes drag reality, clothing beauty and voguing. Voguing is a dance imitating the fashion poses on the cover of Vogue Magazine. This gay documentary switches between ball competitions and interviews with some of the prominent members in the scene. It explores their personal lives and things they have had to go through because of their identity such as racism, homophobia, AIDS and poverty. Some were kicked out by their parents at a young age while some survive as sex workers. This underground community finds freedom to be themselves in these balls away from a world which discriminates and despises them.

FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO


For The Bible Tells Me So is a 2007 gay documentary which looks into the interaction of Christianity and homosexuality is USA. It looks into how the bible has been used as a reference to discriminate against gay people. According to the bible being gay is an abomination and punishable by death.

FLAG FOOTBALL


Flag football is a gay documentary about 4 football teams. The National Gay Flag Football League was started in 2002. More than twenty cities across the USA are members. The best players from each city compete in the National Gaybowl every year. One team is eventually crowned the Gay Superbowl Champions. This documentary is the story of 4 teams and their journey through the tournament.

8 THE MORMON PROPOSITION


8: The Mormon Proposition is a 2010 gay documentary about The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints' involvement in the 2008 California Proposition 8. The gay documentary looks into the immense power of the church and how it uses this to advocate for the denial of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights in America. It also notes that most homeless in Utah are LGBT teens abandoned by their Mormon parents because of homosexuality. The documentary also follows the money trail of Mormon contributions that funded a high powered campaign to pass proposition 8.

THE ADONIS FACTOR


The Adonis Factor is a 2010 gay documentary. It takes a look at how physical image is a very important factor in the gay world. According to the documentary physical appearance might even be the most important factor. It shows how gay men will go to extremes to achieve the perfect look.

PARAGRAPH 175


Paragraph 175 is a 2000 gay documentary film which chronicles the lives of several men who were arrested by the Nazis for homosexuality because of paragraph 175 the anti sodomy provision in the German laws. About 100,00 homosexuals were arrested between 1933 and 1945 and only about 4000 survived the concentration camps. Five of the remaining survives tell their stories.

BEEFCAKE


Beefcake is a 1998 gay documentary drama which looks back at the muscle magazines of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. It highlights the life of Bob Mizer a photographer and publisher at a time when gay erotica was disguised as fitness material. It includes interviews with models and photographers whose work appeared in the early magazines.

The Celluloid Closet is a 1995 gay documentary about the life of homosexuals in the world of cinema. It looks at the positive and negative attitudes the gay community has had to deal with in Hollywood.

NAKED FAME


Naked Fame is a 2005 gay documentary that follows Colton Ford's transition from a gay porn star to a singer. At the age of 40 Colton decides to leave and follow his dream of being a singer. He is not sure how his past in the gay porn industry will affect his singing career. The gay documentary looks at the hurdles he encounters.

CYCLES OF PORN


Cycles Of Porn is a 2005 gay movie documentary about the gay commercial sex industry. It takes a look at the life of young men who decide to make a living exposing their bodies on webcams for a gay sex chat website.

WHEN BOYS FLY


When Boys Fly is a 2002 gay documentary which explores activities at gay circuit parties. The gay documentary follows the experiences of drug use and risky behavior by three young men at the parties.
